DARLINGTON -- Lawyers for both sides are opposing a judge's decision to hold opening statements in an arson trial before the jury is selected.
Lafayette County Circuit Judge William Johnston presided over two recent cases in Green County -- a hate crime trial and a bomb threat case -- in which he required the attorneys to give their opening statements before jurors were chosen.
Now Johnston's decision to do the same in the Lafayette County arson case is being reviewed by the state's 4th District Court of Appeals.
