HIGH POINT, N.C.-For the lighting and decorative accessory business, last week's High Point market was characterized as "slow," in large part due to fewer independent dealers and the enormity of the market. But the majors were there and buying.
In what vendors called a major show of support, top executives at Kmart, J.C. Penney and Carson Pirie Scott, among others, accompanied their buyers to the home decor showrooms.
Having come through a period of soft sales, retailers sought to replenish their supplies, zero in on fashion merchandise and find more traffic-building pieces.
