NEW YORK -- George Denney, touted for establishing Cole Haan as one of the leaders in the high-end footwear market, recently announced he will leave the company on June 22. A veteran of the shoe industry, Denney began his career as a handcutter at E.E. Taylor Corp. He climbed the corporate ladder until he acquired Cole Haan in 1975 from Taylor. At the time, Cole Haan was only a men's brand.
Denney, 63, said his greatest achievement during his 26-year tenure with the Yarmouth, Maine,-based firm was building the company as a men's and women's global brand renowned for its style and intricate detailing.
