May 14--The pool of board-certified child psychiatrists in the Roanoke Valley -- five specialists for 50,000 youngsters -- will shrink when one begins hiatus from practice forced by his failure to pass a credentialing exam.
Mental health officials said the loss of Dr. Rick Claytor worsens a severe shortage of care for troubled youth.
Claytor, the only child psychiatrist employed by Lewis-Gale Clinic in Salem, is losing his job May 31. The clinic requires physicians to pass certification exams in their specialty within four years of being hired to keep their jobs, ...
