FORT WORTH, Texas _ Not being among the world's top golfers anymore was hard enough for Ian Baker-Finch. Watching his golf game erode by the minute was suffocating.
At only 36, prime earning years for many golfers, Baker-Finch walked away.
"I lost my confidence," he said, "andjust got too hard to do."
The end came in Troon, Scotland, in 1997, when Baker-Finch coughed up a 92 to start the British Open. He withdrew and wasn't seen in a regulation PGA Tour round until Thursday, when he opened the MasterCard Colonial with a 74. Baker-Finch hadn't played Colonial since 1996.
