Royal Ahold, the international food provider, is broadening its reach in the U.S. foodservice industry with an agreement to acquire PYA/Monarch from Chicago-based Sara Lee Corp. for $1.57 billion in cash.
The deal between Sara Lee and U.S. Foodservice, a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Ahold, is expected to be finalized by the end of October. The transaction also includes a supply agreement between Sara Lee's food and beverage manufacturing operations and Ahold.
