I WRITE REGULARLY for the Baltimore Sun, one of the nation's better daily newspapers. In January, I was asked to write an article for the Sun on the state of feminism today. My editor sent me over 30 books published last year that were about women. Some -- like the book on female sea captains in the 18th century, a book on women's soccer, a clitoral handbook and some books by men about how tough it is to be a white guy -- weren't directly related to the topic. A few others were broad histories of women's accomplishments in the past two centuries. The rest of the books, however, provided thought-provoking and startling research for my piece.
