INTERNATIONAL PAPER TO CUT 9,000 JOBS; TRIAD SPARED.(BUSINESS)

NEW YORK -- International Paper Co., the world's largest paper producer, plans to eliminate 9,000 jobs, or 10 percent of its work force, as it restructures its printing paper business.

The company said the cuts will not affect its Triad operations, which employ more than 500 people, mostly in Greensboro. But all of International Paper's units will be required to meet companywide performance goals or risk future cuts, a company spokesman said.
