INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE ASSISTS YOUNG CHESS CHAMP
NEW YORK, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert P. DeVecchi, executive director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), said at a New York press conference jointly sponsored by IRC and the American Chess Foundation today that Gata Kamsky's asylum request is "genuine and well- founded." He also called on the Soviet Union to allow the 14-year-old's stepmother to join her husband and Gata in the United States. A full statement follows:
