Increased demand for electricity and a long lull in building new power plants is fueling an influx of electricity plants in Kentucky, including Cinergy's proposed facility in Erlanger.
Since October 1999, 21 power plants have been proposed or have received construction permits in Kentucky, with many of them designed to sell power outside of Kentucky.
''It is by far the largest influx of proposed new facilities since the '60s and '70s utility construction boom,'' said John Hornback, director of the Kentucky Division for Air Quality, the agency that issues permits for new power plants.
