Add pain to spinal-cord injury, and the results can be devastating.
Severe pain that does not go away is a problem for about one in three people with spinal-cord injury (SCI). It can interfere with the ability to carry out daily routines--and affect quality of life.
Your pain may depend on where and how you were injured. For example, SCI from a gunshot often results in more pain than other causes of SCI. Also, someone whose spinal-cord damage is low in the spinal column may have more pain than does a person whose damage is higher.
