Pathologic staging is the most important factor in assessing prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), and lymph node status has a pivotal role in the staging process. The issue as to what constitutes an adequate or minimum number of lymph nodes to be found during the pathologic examination of CRC resection specimens has been confusing.
