Talbots Inc. is under fire by environmental activists who claim the women's clothing chain's Japanese parent supports whale and dolphin hunting by selling the mammals' meat in Japan.
Greenpeace, the Environmental Investigation Agency and The Humane Society plan a protest when Talbots shareholders meet Thursday, baffling the firm.
Talbots is "mystified," spokeswoman Margery Myers said. "We have no involvement whatsover in the sale of dolphin or whale products anywhere in the world."
Myers said Talbots plays no role in parent Jusco Co.'s business. Activists say Talbots and Jusco, which owns a controlling stake in the Hingham retailer, ...
