The faces of Bogart and Cagney and even James Stewart still sell posters: their faces speak to the young. But the presence of Gary Cooper, a huge star in his day and unquestionably the most handsome of them all, seems to be fading. He belonged to an age when America wanted goodness and righteousness and beauty (and he's the one movie hero whom men are not embarrassed to call beautiful) to come together in a single package. Now, perhaps, he looks too good to be true.
