Why do Jim Polshek and his partners keep winning some of the best commissions in the nation?
Last year, when the leaders of the Freedom Forum in Arlington, Virginia, were searching for an architect to design the projected museum of the media, on Washington, D.C.'s Pennsylvania Avenue, they interviewed many of the outstanding talents in the nation. Because it was a plum job--a $250 million building on what's considered America's Main Street--all the contenders wanted it badly. The Forum, which is dedicated to journalistic freedom, slowly pared down the list until it consisted of just two firms. The winner: James Stewart Polshek of New York City.
