A persistent Charlie Ergen has wrangled an audience with General Motors in Echostar's effort to bid for GM subsidiary Hughes Electronics Corp.
Ergen, chairman and chief executive officer of Littleton-based EchoStar Communications, began last September to investigate a possible merger between his satellite-television broadcast company and the much-larger Hughes.
EchoStar filed a confirmation with the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday that GM had finally agreed to talk about a transaction that would wed EchoStar's No. 2 Dish Network with Hughes' No. 1 DirecTV.
