Rare is it that an amateur musician waits more than half his life before working up the nerve to record an album. Rarer still is for that same musician to actually produce a debut that is not only assured and original, but also greatly significant.
Such is the case with singer/songwriter Johnny Dowd, who, in 1997 at ripe old age of 49, emerged from the shadows of obscurity bearing a stunning slice of gothic Americana titled "Wrong Side of Memphis."
