Madison schools have a $1.2 million stake in the growing legislative fight over continuing parental school choice in Milwaukee.
The Madison Metropolitan School District got an extra $1.2 million annually through the state's complicated school aid law after Milwaukee choice financing provisions were settled by the 1999 Legislature, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
The financial boost may be in jeopardy, though. Rural legislators are fighting those provisions and the Legislature's budget-writing Joint Finance Committee was scheduled to act on funding for the choice ...
