The well-known author of this book, once again, undertakes an examination of the life of a famous woman. In this instance, it is a biography of Josephine de Beauharnais Bonaparte written for the general reader. Prior to her work on Josephine, Carolly Erickson gave us the biographies of Elizabeth I and Marie Antoinette. In these earlier biographies, and this new one of Josephine, she uses language to evoke the eras in which each woman lived.
