IT WAS always going to end in tears.
Anglo American, the mining giant whose 85 years of conservative management helped make it the London stock market's 13th biggest company, cuddling up to Anaconda, an Australian nickel producer whose chief executive is the mining industry's equivalent of Crocodile Dundee.
The differences in the pair's valuation methods and investment guidelines could hardly be more stark.
