Rookie Brad Thomas gave Anaheim three runs in the first inning. Lefthander Jarrod Washburn was throwing hard and throwing strikes for the Angels. It appeared as if the Twins were headed for a comfortable defeat.
Manager Tom Kelly's concern might gave gone from winning a ballgame to hoping he would not have to blow out his bullpen three games into this stretch of 13 consecutive days with a game.
Then, the Twins decided to raise the stakes. Thomas steadied and lasted until the sixth. The Twins forced extra innings for the fourth time in six games.
This time, the comeback didn't work ...
