The aluminum industry consumes 6% of the electric power energy generated by the country. The industry generates 13% of the energy it consumes. Metal cans producer Lanesa (Latas de Aluminio do Nordeste), which produces 800mil cans per year, had planned to increase that to 1.2bil units, but due to energy rationing it revised its plans.
