''Moulin Rouge'' is a love it or hate it movie. I loved it.
Does director Baz Luhrmann indulge in some wretched excess in his quirky movie musical revival? You bet he does. And I say more power to him.
''Moulin Rouge'' is an absolute assault on the senses, a big tug on the emotions and a huge lift to the spirits, as Luhrmann and stars Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor manage to combine period operatic drama with modern-day dance club aesthetics to create a living, breathing cinematic art form you won't see come by this way again anytime soon.
Subtlety is not Luhrmann's strong suit, and there's nothing subtle about the plot, ...
