A mosaic tile mural created by students of the School for Creative and Performing Arts was sold for $6,000 during a benefit for the school Wednesday, which included performances by Cincinnati Pops Conductor Eric Kunzel and the pop band 98 Degrees.
The mural had no single buyer, but the school's fundraising group, The Friends of SCPA, found 15 donors who each pledged $400 to donate the artwork to the school.
The mural depicts the Roebling Suspension Bridge using 14,000 pieces of tile hand cut by the students. It was valued at $12,000 based on the materials and labor involved.
