Suicide currently ranks as the third-leading cause of death among 15-to-24 year-olds, exceeded only by injuries and homicides.[1] In 1997, the year with the most current mortality statistics, the suicide rate among this age group was 11.4 per 100,000. The suicide rate for adolescents more than tripled since the 1950s, while rates for the overall population remained virtually unchanged.
