THE Bridget Jones generation of single career girls is becoming the driving force in the housing market.
Independent twentysomething women have overtaken single men and married couples as the keenest group of potential first-time buyers.
Sixteen per cent of single women in their twenties are planning a purchase, compared to 14 per cent of men and six per cent of couples.
The pattern is repeated among thirtysomethings, with 13 per cent of single women in this group planning to buy a home, compared to ten per cent of men.
