THIS YEAR, FOR THE FIRST TIME, BUILDER goes 10 (rather than five) deep into each of the top 50 markets in the United States. Not only do we provide a better picture of market leaders throughout the country, but those top 50 metro markets meant more in 2000, in terms of permits, than in any previous year.
In fact, the top 50 metropolitan areas (out of the 430 that the U.S. Census tracks) accounted for 613,464 single-family permits in 2000. That was a hefty 52 percent of the total 1,183,529 permits issued, including a mere four in Pittsfield, Mass., and a whopping 46,778 in Atlanta. ...
