Anthony Quinn, whose six-decade acting career established the enduring image of a joyful man with a fierce passion for life, died Sunday at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was 86.

Quinn, who lived near Providence in Bristol, R.I., died of respiratory failure, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Although he appeared in more than 130 movies, Quinn was probably best known for the title role in Michael Cacoyannis' 1964 film "Zorba the Greek."
