HOLES in the roads may be costing London councils more than [pound]7 million a year in compensation to pedestrians who fall over or into them and to drivers whose vehicles are damaged by them.
Nationally, there has been a 50 per cent increase in claims for compensation in the last year, taking the figure to around [pound]1million a week.
In London, the compensation figure is running at [pound]62,000 a week.
The official figure from the Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (Alarm) survey today reveals that the total compensation bill for London authorities has hit a record [pound]3.4million a year, with each ...
