Alcatel has made an initial offer for the fiber optics division of Lucent Technology Inc., Alcatel chairman, Serge Tchuruk, said.
"Lucent has decided to sell its fiber optics division. It's a very large division. It's currently the second-biggest player in that market. It's clear that it's a major restructuring event for all players in this business," Tchuruk told a news conference.
"It is clear, also, that practically all the players are looking closely at it, Alcatel like the others...we have made an initial offer, we will now see how things develop," he said.
Reports have said at least four potential buyers were looking at Lucent's fiber ...
