RESEARCHERS at the University of Southern California have announced a startling result from research into 1,500 victims of bladder cancer - namely, that women who use permanent hair dyes at least once a month are more than doubling their risk of getting bladder cancer. If the use is extended over 15 years, they are more than three times at risk.
Hairdressers with more than 10 years in the business have a fivefold increased risk, compared with those who never use dyes.
The findings are alarming because hair-dye use is so widespread throughout Europe, North America and Japan.
