A Case for Interdisciplinary Thinking
Until recently I had not realized that so many American colleges and universities offer interdisciplinary masters degrees for part-time, adult learners. Nor had I heard of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs.(1) My ignorance is worth mentioning because it reflects the stratification of American higher education nowadays. I am sure that most faculty members at research universities like M.I.T., where I teach, would be no less ignorant.
