OAKLAND_The thought of Gil Heredia facing a Giants lineup that's tied for second in the major leagues in homers was a scary proposition entering Friday's Bay Bridge series opener.
But perhaps that was the Heredia of April, who baffled the A's with his shabby pitching.
The new Gil Heredia pitches himself out of tough situations, stays away from throwing home-run pitches and retires solid hitters with his crafty pitching.
He showed up in vintage form Friday, allowing two runs over six innings, and Jason Giambi bested slugging counterpart Barry Bonds by homering in the A's 4-2 win in front of 41,904 fans at Network Associates Coliseum.
