Thomas Hodgkiss will serve 14 months in prison for causing a drunken-driving crash that killed a fetus and injured two women in September.
"Some people will think that's too harsh," Dane County Circuit Judge Steven Ebert said Thursday after imposing the sentence. "Some people will think that's too lenient."
But the one-year jail term with work release privileges recommended by prosecutors, Hodgkiss' lawyer and two pre-sentence reports would have been "too easy, too light," Ebert said.
