D.C. United's play these days seems almost schizophrenic. The team can produce some beautiful attacking soccer - as witnessed in the first half of last week's home game against the Chicago Fire - only to close up shop and collapse long before the final whistle.
United played so well in the first half against the Fire, I almost thought I saw Bruce Arena standing on the sideline. Alas, it was a mirage. Arena was ensconced in the directors' box, dreaming of World Cup 2002.
