Corcoran Gallery of Art Director David C. Levy was having a hectic day. Discussion of changes in architect Frank Gehry's design for the "new Corcoran" were ongoing and intense. In Mr. Levy's outer office, a young man from Centrex Construction Co. was on the telephone talking about cost estimates.
Mr. Levy was leaving the next day for an exhibition in Germany of his own hard-edge photographs. Yet he was more than ready to discuss what clearly is his passion: the evolving design for renovation of the Corcoran's main building on 17th Street NW and an addition to it on New York Avenue.
