The Sandiganbayan yesterday rejected former President Estrada's appeal that he and his son, San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada, both facing charges of plunder, be placed under house arrest.

In a 14-page resolution released at 1:30 a.m. yesterday, the anti-graft court's Third Division said granting Estrada's motion "would be a violation of the Constitution, a violation of the Rules of Court."

The division ordered Estrada and Mayor Estrada, confined at Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa, Laguna, as it directed medical authorities of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City to submit within ten days an update on the physical condition of the two ...
