America's teaching force is not representative of our student population.
While general school enrollments are growing at a fast but steady rate, the minority student population is soaring all across the United States, especially in urban areas. The overall teacher shortage is worrisome for educators and administrators, but the shortage of minority teachers is of grave concern. The dwindling numbers of minority teachers means that our minority students will be hard pressed to find role models of their same background leading their classrooms.
