LOTTERY awards worth more than [pound]90mil-lion for new arts building projects are announced by the Arts Council today of which some [pound]29 million has been allocated to black, Asian or Chinese arts organisations.
In London the bias towards ethnically restricted schemes is most pronounced with nearly half the capital's allotted [pound]27 million going towards such projects. The awards, which are for 60 projects across the country, were described by Arts Council chief executive Peter Hewitt as "a very positive first step to address the lack of funding for the culturally diverse sector".
