The Boeing Co. [BA] is deploying top engineering talent to spur the Federal Aviation Administration to adopt a satellite-based air traffic control system and pick a company as the contractor.
The plan is plausible in light of Boeing's acquisition last October of satellite manufacturer Hughes Space and Communications, of El Segundo, Calif., and the 10-year plan released last week by the FAA that suggests a satellite- based system could be adopted to boost air traffic control capacity.
