Of all the peripheral technologies latched to the computer, nothing has been more interesting than digital photography. Today's 3.3-megapixel cameras produce fabulous photographs, and pros and amateurs alike are flocking to them.
There's not even a remote notion that film will continue to exist in anything other than specialized high-end applications such as long- exposure or large-format images. And digital sensors could replace even those uses.
That said, I have two concerns about the technology. The first is where it will end. When do we stop improving cameras to the extreme and settle in? Then there's the sociology of the camera and how we deal with ...
