MADRID, Spain _ Standing firm against his European critics, President Bush defended his views Tuesday on the death penalty, global warming and missile defense at his first stop here on a five-nation overseas tour.
Bush arrived in Spain to find street protests over the execution Monday of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and an official rebuff from European leaders to his approach to global warming. European Union environmental ministers said Tuesday that Bush's call for more research before acting would delay needed action too long.
