Enough!
AFTER ten days of student protests set off by the death of Hu Yaobang, the Chinese Communist party's former boss, the party's fist has hit the table. The students, who have taken to the streets throughout China to demand democracy, have been grimly accused by the People's Daily of trying to overthrow the Communist party. The message is clear. So long as 84-year-old Mr Deng Xiaoping stays in power there will be no Gorbachev-style political liberalisation in China. If necessary, force will be used to back up the message.
