Americans are spending several billions of dollars yearly on herbs and other botanicals for medical therapies. A portion of this is being used with both pets and farm animals. What happens when these substances, used in animal feed, are metabolized and transferred to meat, milk, or eggs?
In the absence of drug claims, certain herbal substances in animal feeds are reported as food uses. Determination is made by the Center for Veterinary Medicine, a branch of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), on a case-by-case basis.
