LOS ANGELES Some of the advertising copy for Red Lion Hotels & Inns reassuringly reads, "Welcome to the new Red Lion.... Renewed value, regained comfort." It would seem less intended for consumers and aimed more at potential owners and franchisees because industry insiders have recently seen the brand change hands in a series of acquisitions. Originally based in Vancouver, Washington, Red Lion was purchased by Doubletree Hotels, which itself merged with Promus Hotel Corp., a company that was subsequently acquired by Hilton Hotels Corp.
