THE MAN on trial for the murder of Jill Dando will not be going into the witness box to give evidence in his own defence, his barrister disclosed yesterday.
Michael Mansfield QC said he would be presenting a mass of evidence to show that Barry George had nothing to do with the killing of the TV presenter.
Opening the case for the defence, he told the Old Bailey jury: 'We will endeavour to place evidence before you following the same chronology adopted by the Crown.
'This will not include the defendant himself.'
Mr Mansfield claimed George had no motive to murder Miss Dando and displayed no sign whatsoever of being obsessed with her.
