Jun. 17--CHICAGO--More people 40 and older are buying motorcycles, and more are dying as a result.
Deaths among motorcyclists have risen 27 percent the last three years, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations says riders 40 and older account for most of the increase.
In 1990, riders and passengers 40 and up accounted for about 17 percent of motorcycle deaths; in 1999 it was nearly 40 percent. In the same period, deaths among bikers 20 and younger dropped to 5.3 percent from 18 percent.
