LONDON'S tourist industry is bracing itself for the worst summer for a decade with no sign of a genuine recovery from foot-and-mouth before September.
A drop in bookings for the crucial months of July and August has led London Tourist Board (LTB) to forecast a revised nine to 14 per cent drop in visitor numbers for the year.
The cost to the capital is underlined by LTB estimates that total spending by overseas visitors will fall by between [pound]5.9 billion and [pound]6.4 billion.
A spokeswoman for the tourist board said: "This year is shaping up to be almost as bad as the initial forecasts."
