After a couple decades and six babies together, Archie and Edith, the Minnesota Zoo's white-cheeked gibbons, are going their separate ways.
Archie, 28, who arrived on Gibbon Island in 1977, is a long-term resident of the zoo. His last day on exhibit was Tuesday.
He'll move to the Memphis Zoo where zoo keepers hope he will continue his breeding success, this time with a youthful new "companion."
Meanwhile, 30-year old Edith's anticipated role is grandmother. A young male gibbon, a mate for daughter Tia, 5, is expected here this fall from the National Zoo.
