MANTEO -- Residents and visitors could be in for more long, hot waits in their cars this summer.
When tourists on the Outer Banks tire of the beach, more and more are heading to Manteo to see the renovated North Carolina Aquarium, Roanoke Island Festival Park and other attractions.
But the increased number of visitors since the aquarium's reopening last year has overwhelmed Manteo's traffic capacity, and despite the new Croatan Sound bridge under construction, officials said Monday that they don't expect traffic congestion to get any better.
